Abstract: With the continuous growth of China's iron & steel output, the demand on iron ore has kept a continuous increase.China's iron ore output, though on a great increase, can't satisfy the increasing demand due to its iron and steel output growth, leading to a continuous increase of its imported iron ore quantity.China has become the world largest iron ore importing country, with the price of imported iron ore on continuous rise.The issue of iron ore resource will become a strategical one restricting the development of China's iron & steel industry.The paper elaborates and analyzes the demand, source country, variety, quality, price and recent conditions of iron ore import.It is suggested that China should enhance the geological exploration, take advantage of the present high price of iron ore to conduct the assessment of many low grade refractory iron ore  resources in China, put more investment on the beneficiation research so as to make these resources exploitable and utilizable, thus enlarging China's utilizable resources to provide a resource backup for China's iron & steel industrial development.
