Abstract: Process mineralogy of a clay-vanadium ore in Shanxi was investigated by research methods of chemical analysis, microscope, automatic quantitative mineral technology(MLA)to focus on identifying the mineral composition and content, the occurrence of vanadium, and the disseminated state and particle characteristics of main minerals containing vanadium in the ore. These results provide the detailed information and theoretical basis for pre-concentration of the vanadium ore. The results indicate that the content of V2O5 is 0.85%, which is relatively low. Vanadium exist as isomorphism mainly in mica type minerals(sericite, biotite and chlorite), and a small amount of limonite. The expecting recovery of vanadium by separation of mica and limonite is 88.25%. But the grinding dissociation of these minerals is difficult because these are quartz inclusions in their schistosity.
