Abstract: More than 95% of minerals in a Beihai kaolin tailing in Guangxi is quartz. In order to provide the basis for improving high added value of tailings, and based on the process mineralogy research, beneficiation tests for purification of quarts sands are carried out by the process of scrubbing-classification-rod mill-grading-high gradient high intensity magnetic separation-reverse flotation-acid scrubbing. Through this process, high whithness quartz sands with the particle size of 0.6~0.1 mm,SiO2 content of up to 99.91%,Fe2O3 content of 79.88 μg/g were gained. Combining with the benefinicaiton tests and the process mineralogy research, the process of both producing high-whithness quartz sand and the byproducts of ceramic materials, ordinary quartz sand, kaolin and others is recommanded for the actual production in future.
