Abstract: In order to guarantee the scientific accuracy in selecting the mining method and to avoid the subjective arbitrariness of experience analogy method in high-altitude areas, the mining method selection was changed into the systems engineering decision with a polymetallic ore in Tibet autonomous region as the engineering background. In consideration of five factors of economy, technique, safety, environment and resources,a comprehensive hierarchy structure of evaluation indexes was built by Analytic Hierarchy Process to get a reasonable weight matrix. Then Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation method was used to determine membership matrix and calculated for a theoretical optimal method. Finally, the optimal mining method was proposed by the combination of theory with practice. The practical application shows that the AHP-FCE method is highly logical, systemic and practical. It not only can be used as a guideline for mining method selection in high-altitude areas, but also provides a new way for the similar optimization problem.
