Abstract: Two methods of slope stability analysis for steep end-slope mining are proposed by using the related theory of steep end-slope mining, and the research model of the economic benefits by the steep end-slope mining and the calculation model of the secondary stripping costs are set up. Taking a surface coal mine in the north of China for example, the bilateral end-slope angles in the first strip area can be increased from 37° to 44° and 42° respectively. By this method, about 116 921 120 yuan of economic benefits can be obtained and 16 622 870 yuan of the secondary stripping costs between the first and the second strip area can be saved each year. The result showed that it is technically feasible to adopt the steep end-slope mining in large-scale surface coal mine with flat coal seam in China and this mining method can bring large economic benefits.
