Remote Sensing Investigation and Environmental Impact Analysis of Tailing Dams in Shaanxi Province

Abstract

Abstract: With the use of SPOT-5，RAPIDEYE satellite remote sensing data，the identification method for tailings dam is studied.All distribution status of tailings dams in Shaanxi Province is investigated and the environmental problems are analyzed.Till 2012，there are 270 of tailing dams in Shaanxi Province，which are mainly concentrated in Qinling-Bashan Mountain Area in Southern Shaanxi with main types of lead-zinc ore，iron ore and molybdenum ore; The impact of tailing dams on the environment indicates as follows: the tailing dams occupies a lot of land.The harmful ingredients contained in tailings pollute the rivers，and some defective or dangerous dams easily result in debris flow hazards.
