Roasting-acid Leaching of K and Al from Alunite Concentrate

Abstract: Main chemical composition of alunite concentrate,which was recovered from Zijinshan copper tailings in Fujian by flotation,were Al2O3,SiO2,K2O and SO3.Main mineral composition of alunite concentrate were alunite,quartz and dickite.Roasting-leaching tests were studied to extract valuable elements of Al and K from alunite concentrate.Results showed:alunite concentrate roasting at 600 ℃ for 1 h,roasted products leaching with sulfuric acid concentration of 60 g/L,leaching temperature of 80 ℃,liquid-solid ratio of 6,leaching time of 0.5 h,leaching rate of potassium was 98.47% and leaching rate of aluminum was 94.35%;Main chemical compositions of residue from leaching process were Al2O3 and SiO2,whose contents totaled to 90.44%.The residue was suitable as construction materials.Test results could provide technical support for the multipurpose utilization of the alunite concentrate by acid leaching process.
