Abstract: The paper applies the method of drilling in both sidewall to analyze the pressure relief mining in high stress region of East-west combination area of Chengchao Iron Mine.According to the pressure relief mechanism and combining with the practical project，the numerical simulation on pressure relief mining was made to analyze the stress distribution in east-west combination area before and after the drilling.The numerical results show that pressure-relief mining with drilling can effectively make use of pressure-relief holes cutting the roadway surrounding rock and make the concentrated stress of the roadway surrounding rock transfer to the pressure relief project.Pressure of the surrounding rock would be released by space contraction of the pressure relief holes，finally the effect of reducing the pressure and deformation of roadway surrounding rocks is achieved.
