Abstract: Facing the increasing pressure of population, food and environment, the security of the water resources and food in overlapped areas of mineral and crop production has become a major regional or even national safety issue. The paper, based on the analysis of the mining effects on the water resource and food sicurity, reviews the main content and progress in the study of the water resources and food in overlapped areas of mineral and crop production. It is held that the overlapped area is now not regarded as a large system with mutually coordinated regional society, economy and nature in the study of its water resource and grain sicurity and insufficient work has been done on a systematic study. Especially, the mineral production factors influencing the security of the food area are not fully considered. A systematic study is required on the influencing law of the water resource in mining area, the agricultural water demand for grain sicurity and the optimized configuration of the agricultural water resources in the area, which is also the main orientation for the future research of the water resources and food security in overlapped areas of mineral and crop production.
