Abstract: The paper analyzes in detail the advantages and a disadvantage of conventional inverse distance weighted methods, and puts forward a new one based on their improvement: indicator inverse distance weighted (IIDW).Compared with the classical IDWs, IIDW method makes full use of the effective information in sampling data.It can provide not only more accurate estimated values of attributes but also quantified accuracy of the estimated values.Additionally, the probability of an attributive value in a certain range of the area under estimation can also be obtained by this method. Both theoretical deduction and practical application have shown that, compared with conventional IDW methods, IIDW is a simpler, more efficient interpolation method and worth further study, application and spreading in research fields of geology, geography, aerograph, etc.
