Abstract: Failure processes of deep roadways under different confining pressures are numerically studied by using a rock failure process analysis code(RFPA).The whole process of progressive failure leading to collapse is numerically demonstrated. The results of numerical simulation are analyzed and the failure modes of deep roadways discussed. The results of numerical simulation indicate that failure processes of deep roadways in high stress area varies greatly under different confining pressures, and the relationship between vertical and horizontal pressures determines the main trend and main area of the failure of the wall rock of high stress roadway, which should be especially reinforced;and the wall corner and arch bottom are the major failure sites and should be given top consideration.Failure processes of deep roadways will exhibit a slow transformation in a long phase at first and then enter into a transitorily accelerated failure process and macroscopic failure phase. Therefore,it is of important reference and realistic significance to investigating the failure process of roadway and to the mining site.
