Abstract: The concepts such as economic grade was introduced to define quantitatively the specific scope of low grade iron ore resources and based on the breakeven point, the principle of the economic analysis for the calculation of critical grade in the exploitation and utilization of low grade mineral resources was deduced.Based on the widely collected relevant parameters and the calculations, it is held that when the price of iron concentrate is 600 yuan/t, the exploitation of low grade iron ore resources either by open-pit mining or by underground mining will not be economic and only when the price of iron concentrate exceeds 600 yuan/t, low grade iron ore resources will gradually have the economic feasibility of exploitation and utilization.When the price of iron concentrate exceeds 1000 yuan/t, low grade iron ore resources will generally have the economic feasibility of exploitation and utilization.
