Abstract: Chute has been widely used as intake structure in the tailings pond with small catchment area.When the water head is low，a chute with flat plate is selected to enlarge its flow capacity，which can solve the flood drainage problem in the tailings pond with low water head.The influence of chute plate type，chute slope，water head and flow states on flow capacity should be considered adequately in the design of chute-culvert（or tunnel）flood drainage system.A case is given to discuss the capacity of the chute flood drainage system.Flat chute-culvert flood drainage system is recommended.
