Abstract: The technical conditions of deep reduction-low intensity magnetic separation are investigated for a rare earth tailings after preelected by magnetic separation, and the generations of the deep reduction and the magnetic iron powder are assayed by XRD. The results indicate that under the suitable conditions for deep reduction of the dosage of lignite accounting for 10% of the total mass of the sample and lignite, and the reduction temperature 1 200 ℃ for 60 min, and the suitable grinding of -74 μm 85% with magnetic field strength of 118 kA/m for low intensity magnetic separation, magnetic iron powder with Fe grade of 91.00% and the reduction recovery of 90.83% by low intensity magnetic separation, and total iron recovery of 78.20% are finally obtained. XRD analysis shows that complex iron minerals in the tests mostly become single iron. The iron in products of deep reduction can be better recovered by grinding and low intensity magnetic separation.
