Abstract: There is 52.50% iron in an oolitic hematite from Henan, iron mainly exists in the form of hematite, with distribution rate of 75.37%.Main minerals are hematite, illite and svanbergite. In order to provide reference for the rational development and utilization of the ore, process mineralogy was conducted. Results indicated that hematite usually exists in form of oval ooid, fine or aphanitic aggregate coated with gangue minerals like oval shape, coupled by the core and a concentric shell, some of which assembled with each other;part of the hematite show xenomorphic granular uneven distribution of monomers or aggregates, few of hematite distributed between sand grains in form of cryptocrystalline cements;hematite was micro-fine distributed,0.037~0.003 mm accounted for 87.17%.It is difficult to obtain the ideal index by the conventional mineral processing methods.Deep(direct) reduction process is recommended for which can transform the low intensity magnetic iron minerals into high intensity magnetite or metallic iron and be separated by low intensity magnetic separation.
