Abstract: The total iron content of oolitic hematite in Western Hubei is 43.50%.The major occurrence form of iron is hematite, and whose distribution is 96.34%.Major valuable minerals are hematite, major gangue minerals are quartz, kaolin and chamosite. The textures are mainly fibrous, flocculence, metasomatic, cryptocrystalline, flaky, and panautomorphic and hypidiomorphic-granular.The structures are mainly entoolitic and disseminated. Most of hematite is output in form of oolite granular aggregate with diameter of 0.08~0.8 mm.Part of hematite is output in form of irregular granular, thin vein and inlay with granularity of 0.02~0.2 mm.The rest of hematite is output in form of disseminated with granularity less than 0.005 mm.The hematite particle is very fine. The cumulative granularity distribution larger than 75 μm is merely 23.87%,while the cumulative granularity less than 5 μm is up to 39.20%.The collophanite are present as oolith core and ring inside the oolitic hematite particle. The dressing granularity is less than 5~10 μm,in order to realize the separation of collophanite from oolitic hematite, combined technique of processing and metallurgy is recommended.
