Abstract: Determination of the elastic modulus of rockmass is a hot topic of research in both domestic and foreign geotechnical circles.Based on the damage mechanical and sound wave testing methods, and Monte-Carlo technology, the method for estimating the elastic modulus of differently weathered rockmass was theoretically deduced, which was used in the estimation of the elastic modulus of the foundation of the arch dam of Yujianhe Reservoir in Guizhou.The results indicate that, at the preliminary study stage of some large scale projects, when it is needed to make a preliminary judgment for the elastic modulus of rockmass, Monte-Carlo simulation and laboratory test methods can be used to estimate the elastic modulus of differently weathered rockmass.
