Abstract: A Hunan hematite ore belongs to ferruginous slat and is of low grade. Its main iron mineral is hematite, which mostly occurs in about 3~5 μm size, has a complex association with quartz and can not be effectively separated by conventional processing method. Therefore, the process of coal-based direct reduction-magnetic separation was adopted for this ore.As a result, an effective iron enrichment was realized and a reduced ore obtained at a metallization rate of 93.82% by coal-based direct reduction at a reduction temperature of 950 ℃, time of 80 min and coal/ore mass ratio of 2.5∶1.The reduced ore then went through three stage grinding and three stage magnetic separation. An iron concentrate was produced, with the metallization rate bring as high as 98.02% , iron grade being 69.54%and iron recovery being 65.58% (to the run-of-mine ore).
