Abstract: In order to develop the use of Guangxi Ningming betonite resource in treating heavy metal ions-containing waste water, the adsorption behavior of this betonite for the Cu2+ in aqueous solution was studied. The static adsorption test results indicate that this betonite has a rapid adsorption rate for Cu2+, and needs a short time to reach the adsorption equilibrium. The unit mass adsorption amount increases with the increase of the temperature, initial Cu2+concentration and initial pH value in certain range. The fitting result between the test data and the relevant mathematical mode shows that the adsorption kinetics characters accord with the pseudo -second order kinetic equation, and the isothermal adsorption characters conform to Langmuir reaction isotherm. The thermodynamic parameter calculation results indicate that the adsorption process is a spontaneous endothermic process.
