The iron ore imported has become one of the China's important industrial raw materials of resource type. The iron ore import trade involves a large volume and high amount. The great fluctuation of the international price of iron ore has produced great impact on China's economic growth. To ensure a safe iron ore supply and promote a well and rapid growth of China's industrial economy, we must adapt ourselves to the supply-demand pattern of world iron market, follow the basic law of mineral exploration and exploitation, strengthen the study on the strategy of utilizing the foreign iron ore resource and improve the level of scientific utilization of resource. Based on a deep analysis of world iron ore resource, the iron ore resource exploitation and utilization in China and its iron ore import situation, the authors put forward the basic strategy for utilizing foreign iron ore resource.

The existence of a large number of joints in rockmass can lead to mechanical properties that are obviously different than those of an integral rockmass,greatly increasing the complexity of its mechanical calculation. Based on the discussion on the calculation principle of two-dimensional discrete element method,the corresponding program is adopted to calculate the stability of the rocky slope under natural and seismic conditions respectively and a detailed analysis is made of the calculation principle for the seismic condition. The safety coefficients under the two conditions are calculated to be 2.0 and 1.67 respectively,illustrating that the slope is stable. Meanwhile,it is shown that two-dimensional element method is very suitable for the stability calculation of jointed rocky slope.

With the yearly increase of the depth of open-pit mining, the water infiltration of borehole can not be ignored. The paper analyzes the effect of the water in boreholes on blasting effect and discusses its technical route. In light of the reality of Shougang Iron Mine and by making use of the incompressibility and good energy transmission of water medium, large space borehole pattern and comprehensive blasting optimizing technology were adopted. As a result, the blasting output per meter hole was raised and the blasting effect removed, achieving significant achievement in exploring efficient blasting of deep-water borehole.

Huize Lead & Zinc Mine of Yunnan Chihong Zn & Ge Co., Ltd is a one thousand meter-deep mine. The main problems in the mining of this hard-rock deposit include high ground stress and developed fault structure. The paper describes the mine geological conditions and the rock core caking and wall rock spalling observed in the field investigation, analyzes the rockburst characteristics, summarizes the basic law of rockburst occurrence and classifies the rockburst type and intensity of No. 8 orebody. It is concluded that the wall rock of this orebody between 1 451 m level to 1 261 m level has medium to strong trend of rockburst. The causes and mechanism of rockburst are analyzed from the initial rock stress, geological structure and mining depth, hereby providing an important basis for choosing the rational mining method and the technical measures for controlling the rockburst.

Through the tests on the strength of pure cement, the fluidity of cement-tailing slurry and its solidified body, the suitable proportioning ratio of the caustic slag cement and its addition for tailing solidification were determined. The adoption of caustic slag cement prepared by low modulus sodium silicate (14%) and slag powder could obtain good compressive strength of the hardened body of the pure slag cement, which was as high as 69.6 MPa after three days and 84.0 MPa after seven days and 91.8 MPa after 28 days. When the slurry had the same amount of caustic slag cement and tailings, its fluidity was evidently better than that of the slurry consisting of silicate cement and tailings and the strength of its solidified body was also higher than that of the latter, especially after a longer time of solidification. When the fluidity of both slurries was controlled to be the same, the solid content of the former could be higher than that of the later. The investigation of the internal microscopic structure of the cement and tailing solidified body by SEM indicated an evident cementing character in that of the caustic cement and tailings. MIP measurement of the internal pore structure of the solidified body shows that the total pore rate of the solidified body was reduced when the dosage of the caustic slag cement was increased, with the large pore proportion reduced and the small pore proportion increased. It can be considered, through the comprehensive investigation of the fluidity and the strength of the solidified body of cement and tailing slurry, that caustic slag cement is more suitable than common silicate cement to be used as the cementing material for tailings.

Two extra-large mined-out spacies formed by the mining at the shallow east and west Shizishan mine sections of Dongguashan Copper Mine remained untreated for a long time, causing certain impact on the normal mining production and the surrounding environment. The deep mining of Donggushan Copper Mine started in 2006 and the mining and mineral processing capacity is 13 000 t/d. The tailing sands produced by the concentrator are normally used to fill the deep mined-out area and there are still slightly surplus tailings. To solve the issue of the surplus tailing discharge, this part of tailings is used in treating the above-said extra-large mined-out spacies. In the process, several issues have been solved such as enclosing wall design, water drainage, tailings transport and filling control. As a result, the hidden safety dangers due to the existence of these extra-large mined-out spacies have been removed.

CBR is a mature,fast design method for heavy traffic roads. As it needs few basic parameters and involves a simple design process,the method is still used in many countries. The current Chinese design rule for factory and mine roads can not result in an effective design for heavy traffic and the specified design method is difficult to be mastered by mine technicians. Therefore,it is suggested to apply CBR method in the mine road design. The pavement thickness is determined by the designed wheel load and the CBR value of subgrade. The calculation formulae for pavement thickness and traffic load,the procedure of pavement design and also the commonly used parameters for pavement design are given.

A Qinghai magnetite ore contains non-ferrous metals such as zinc and copper that have fine dissemination grain sizes. A process consisting of flotation and magnetic separation was used for processing this high sulfur magnetite ore. At a grinding size of 90.07% - 0.074 mm,an iron concentrate containing 68.76% TFe and 1.08% sulfur at an iron recovery of 80.22% was obtained. Meanwhile,a sulfur concentrate grading 26.09% at a sulfur recovery of 65.51% was also gained,in which some metal elements such as copper and zinc were enriched. This iron concentrate was then processed by oxidized roasting to reduce its sulfur content to below 0.2%,reaching the quality standard for fine quality iron concentrate.

Gold recovery from arsenic-containing gold ore has been a major subject of flotation research. Indium tin oxide (ITO) nanopowder was synthesized by liquid chemical co-precipitation process using 4 N indium and tin ingots as material and ammonia (25% wt) as precipitator. The study investigated the effect of the initial concentration of indium ion,reaction temperature, pH of reaction end and aging time of precursor on the size of ITO powder. The powder was characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (DTA-TG), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and field-emission scanning electron microscope(SEM). At 1% sodium silicate, a reaction temperature of 60 ℃, a final reaction pH of 8, an aging time of 2 h and a calcination temperature of 800 ℃ for 4 h, the ITO powder particulates obtained are of cubic crystalline structure, 20~40 nm sized, spherical, uniform and well dispersed. Compared with the previous ones, this process has the advantages of easy-to-get raw material, improved co-precipitation, moderate reaction, simple process equipment, small pollution, low cost and high quality, providing a new process route for the synthesis of nanosized ITO powder.

Mineral reserve estimation of orebody involves a large amount of data, and the conventional manual computation can be a heavy and fussy work. Computing the reserve based on 3D orebody modeling can effectively improve the efficiency of mineral reserve estimation and management. The results of the factor analysis of trace elements in the iron ore of Chengchao Iron Mine in the southeast of Hubei indicates that the ore formation of Chengchao iron deposit experienced the sodium and potassium mineralization in magmatite evolution period, during which, iron and copper were preliminarily enriched as ore-forming substances and entered the magmatic hydrothermal fluid accompanying the magmatic liquidation. In the ore-containing hydrothermal fluid evolution period, it also experienced early skarn stage, oxide mineralization stage and sulfide mineralization stage, and then at the late hydrothermal fluid period, the carbonization stage and the end the mineralization, forming a complete magmatic hydrothermal mineralization process.

The paper studies the cyanide leaching process for gold concentrate(-20 μm>97% )ultra-finely ground by wet stirring mill grinding method,discusses the factors influencing the cyanide leaching of gold concentrate and compares its cyanide leaching indexes with those of the gold concentrate ground by conventional wet tumbling ball mill grinding method. The results indicate that the optimization of the factors of sodium cyanide leaching can greatly shorten the cyanide leaching time,reduce the dosage of sodium cyanide and lime by 1 kg/t and 1.47 kg/t respectively, improve the gold leaching rate by 0.49 percentage point and reduce the gold content in the leaching residue by 0.21 g/t. The optimization effects are very obvious.

However, the available screening theories can not well solve the issue. A numerical simulation method based on discrete element is presently used in simulating and analyzing the screening. The research practice has proven that it is an efficient tool for granular dynamics analysis. The paper introduces the background of the research on vibrating screen and the basic theory of discrete element method, reviews the application of discrete element method in screening field and discusses the main difficulties in screening simulation and the issues to be solved in its future development.

Based on the analysis of the inline lifting system for coal mines, it was proposed to adopt a single-track double-hook lifting solution. Programmable logic controller (PLC) technology was used to realize the linkage control of the railway switch. To ensure the safe operation of tailing reservoir and to prevent and control its disaster accident due to seepage, FLAC3D is used to carry out the seepage numerical simulation calculation of the tailing reservoir. The result shows that there is a large speed vector at the gully, which can wrap the flowing sands and therefore, intensify the local damage. It is known from the figure that the dynamic pressure is the largest where the water head, gradient and hydraulic slope are the maximum, and the corresponding part is most likely to be destroyed by seepage, leading to an accident of the reservoir. The chosen section A-A's dam slope angle is evidently larger than the dam stability angle. FLAC3D software can be used to do a better simulation calculation of tailing reservoir's seepage, which can be of certain reference and guidance importance to the safe operation of tailing reservoir.

Of the ten metals in the soil,the average concentration of Hg exceeds the value specified in the state standard for the third class soil environment by 3.676~5.111 times and As,by 14.276~17.467 times,illustrating that the soil in Laowangchang Gold Mine has been seriously polluted by Hg and As. The concentrations of metal elements in mosses plants are generally high and have certain relation to those in the relevant soil. In light that little study has been made on the control of common dusting source and even less systematic study on dusting mechanism, it is put forward that it is of primary importance to make clear the dusting mechanism so as to control the dust from its source. Analysis was made of the force acted on the dust particulates and the preliminary study on the physical model of the dusting mechanism of super-fine particulates was also conducted. The results indicate that the dusting of 1~ 10 μm particulates is effected by mechanical force, rising force and ixodynamics; several micron-fine dust particulates can be made from stillness to getting the velocity identical to that of the mainstream in only a momentary time. The dusting of particulates is extremely complex and varied.
