Abstract: Based on the real monitoring data of the soil heavy metal elements sampled from water treatment plant, tailings dam and the surrounding soil of a uranium mine, the heavy metal pollution of soils are comprehensively analyzed and assessed by adopting the single factor pollution index, the Nemerow integrated pollution index method, the index of geo-accumulation and the potential ecological hazard index method. The results show that there are different levels of pollution at three sampling sites and seven heavy metal elements at each sample. For the integrated pollution levels of heavy metals at each sample, the tailings dam is the most and followed by the water treatment plant and the mine surroundings in turn. For the pollution level of each element, Cd is the worst, and followed by Cr and Cu in turn. This assessment can provide a scientific basis for the environmental governance in the mine.
