Abstract: Mineral resource is an important material basis for China's social and economic development, thus enjoying a very significant status in the national economic development. From the perspective of sustainable development of iron ore resource, the paper analyzes China's iron supply capacity, output and consumption and also the international supply situation. It is proposed to build an economized economy; to improve the exploitation and utilization of domestic iron ore resource through technical innovation; to implement a globalized mineral resource strategy and to set up long-term steady iron ore supply bases abroad; and execute strategies for ensuring a sustainable supply of mineral resource such as finding substituting resources.
