Abstract: Abstract Fe3Si-Ti(C,N)multiphase material was prepared from the iron tailings of titanium separation in Panzhihua Steel by using active carbon as the reductant and adopting carbothermic process and realizing an integration of synthesis and sintering, hereby exploring a new way to synthesize multiphase material at low cost by using tailings. The phases, microstructure and composition of the sintered product were characterized by means of X ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)and the mechanical property of the sample was also studied.XRD result indicates that the main crystal phases of the product are Fe3Si and Ti(C,N).It is known from SEM and EDS results that the resultant Ti(C,N )phase is enriched around Fe3Si. The bulk density and superficial Rockwell hardness is increased with the temperature rise. When the temperature for synthesis is 1 500 ℃ and the holding time is 4 h,the resultant sintered product has a high bulk density(ρ =4.331 g/cm3 )and high superficial Rockwell hardness(HR15N =85.0)
