Abstract: Fujian Makeng Iron Mine is a super-large underground iron mine in China, belonging to karst water mine area with complex hydrogeological conditions. Its exogenous river-Xima River flows through the mine area, intersects with the fault at several sections. and supplements the karst water through seeping into the fractured belts of faults, constituting an evident threat to the deep mining. Based on the detailed analysis of the relation between Xima River and karst water in the mine area and in light of the conditions of the sections where there is possible seepage, an automatic monitoring system for surface water flowrate was designed and built, eliminating the problems of high time and labor consumption and great error in manual measuring of deep-cutting river in mountain area. Through the calculation and analysis of the monitoring data, the seepage conditions at various sections of Xima River at the present drainage for production and the karst water level on continuous lowering are known, providing basic data for a combined control of the surface and underground water in the mine area. This method can be reference and guidance to the mine areas with similar conditions.
