Abstract: The too high moisture and difficult dewatering of Meishan iron tailings made it difficult to comprehensively utilize. To solve the challenge, industrial tests were made on the classified dewatering of the tailings in the concentrator in 2006.The equipment used in the test included FX-200 cyclones, a TT-24 m2 ceramic filter and a XMZ-340/1250 box filter press. At a filtering pressure of 0.08~0.09 MPa, coarse fraction tailings product was obtained with a moisture of 14.84%, filter coefficient of 0.458 t/(m2·h) and yield of 42.68%.The test result showed that the dewatering of the classified fine fraction tailings by the existing filter press resulted in increased product moisture and filtering time. The classified dewatering has also brought a reduction of production cost by 0.58 yuan per ton tailings.
