Abstract: The new adsorbent of microwave enhanced Al-modified bentonite was produced by means of Al2(SO4)3 and microwave radiation, and its adsorption properties on ammonia nitrogen in water was investigated. The experimental study showed that the optimum preparation conditions of adsorbent are 4% of Al2(SO4)3 solution under the radiation for 10 min by 480W microwave. In this condition, the specific surface area of the microwave enhanced Al-modified bentonite can be up to 180.69 m2/g. By adopting this microwave enhanced Al-modified bentonite, the removal efficiency for 100 mg/L of ammonia-nitrogen wastewater will be up to 96.8% under conditions of the pH 10, the total adsorbent dosage of 0.4 g/L and the reaction time for about 20 min.
