Abstract: In order to investigate the characteristics of acoustic emission(AE)during the loading process, both uniaxial compressive and Brazilian tests of rock samples from Dahongshan copper mine were performed. Both the failure mechanism and the failure prediction of rock mass in-situ AE monitoring on panels of the mine were also studied.Similar rules were found from AE characteristics of rock failure indoor and pillar caving failure and stope roof failing in situ monitoring. The changes of AE activity from quiet to long-term abrupt could be regarded as one of forewarnings for the failure of rock mass.
