Abstract: To study the relationship between the rock burst danger and P-wave velocity, the quantitative relationship of damage and the P-wave velocity was established.Meanwhile, the laboratory experiments on red sandstone under uniaxial loadings were made to verify its correctness.Using the above mentioned relationship,a new method to rock bust danger forecast was presented and the rank of rock burst danger was classified. The corresponding control measures were put forward. When the stress level was low,P-wave velocity rose slowly and the amount of damage was decreased. When the load increased to be 80%~90% of the peak level,P-wave velocity dropped sharply and the amount of damage increased quickly, which predicted the failure was coming.
