Abstract: Based on the research on a certain high-iron manganese ore properties,a process in which anthracite coal was the reducing agent for coal-based direct reduction and magnetic separation of the ore was studied. The results show that 49.53% of the total manganese is closely associated with iron oxide which was reduced to the metal iron leading to the aggregation and growth and MnO was formed in the process. Therefore,it is an efficient method for the separation of MnO and iron for their magnetic difference. Under the optimize conditions of reduction temperatures(1 100 ℃)and duration(100 min),the manganese grade was 63.05% and the content of the iron was only 5.82% in the non-magnetic products in which the recovery of manganese was 78.47% while the iron grade was 56.30% in the magnetic products, and the recovery of iron was 86.20%.
