Abstract: The paper reviews the research on refractory red iron ores, with the highlight on the status quo of the research on oolitic hematite that is considered as refractory both in and outside China and that of Anshan type hematite, whose research has achieved rather rapid progress. A new utilization way is proposed for oolitic hematite beneficiation research, that is,direct smelting and then using the slag to make glass ceramic.
