For large lean ore deposits, it is economically unfeasible to use the filling method and there are problems of low integral resource recovery and difficult control of ground pressure in later period if conventional open-stope or caving method is used. As a solution, Professor Gu Desheng has proposed a continuous mining method , where the ore block is taken as a stoping unit , there are no intermediate pillars between the ore blocks and induced roof caving is used to release the ground pressure. The industrial test made on No. 92 orebody Dachang Underground Copper Mine has effectively raised the resource recovery and successfully prevented the great ground pressure disaster by economic and safe engineering means.

Based on the analysis of stratum structure of wall rock of Gucheng Colliery, rock mechanical parameter test and wall-rock stability classification were made. It was concluded that the main north roadway at 850m level in the colliery is of typical “instable wall rock roadway (Class IV)”. In view of this, compound support mode was proposed and the support capability of inverted arch analyzed. The results indicate that the compound support mode can make the surrounding supporting body to form an enclosed structure, thus facilitating the improvement of the roadway support effect.

Pillarless sublevel caving has gained wide application in metal mines, where horizontal cross-section method is generally used to calculate the stratified reserve that is used in the reserve management of the production sublevels. The concept of sublevel reserve is proposed based on many years' practice. With Longdong orebody in Daye Iron Mine as the real case, the calculation method of sublevel reserve is described in detail and the calculation error is compared and analyzed. The adoption of the sublevel reserve calculation method can reduce the calculation amount, shorten the calculation cycle and improve the reliability of reserve, thus greatly facilitating the guidance on mining production, the mine loss and dilution calculation and the dynamic management of reserve. Moving load is an important factor affecting the open-pit slope. The moving load dynamic test on Xinqiao Mine slope indicates that low frequency vibration takes a larger proportion in the whole frequency domain and the vibration low frequency mainly varies between 10 to 60Hz. The propagation velocity of train loading is below 0.01m/s on average and the propagation distance of the stress wave from moving load is generally between 5 to 20m. The high frequency component of vibration spectrum is absorbed instantly by rails, leaving small effect on both subgrade and slope; and the medium frequency component is transmitted from rails to subgrade, producing unstable excitation vibration to far-field subgrade and slope which will influence the structural stability of both subgrade and slope. In actual engineering, local reinforcement can prevent the sand soil from liquefaction in disturbed area.

This paper investigates a HP compound tailing cementing agent composed of high water material (HWM) and portable cement (PC). Cementation test was made on the tailings at different concentrations, types and particle sizes, and measurement was made on the uniaxial compressive strength of 3d, 7d, 28d and 56d of the cemented blocks with a cement-sand ratio of 12%. The optimal proportioning ratio and application method of this new type compound cementing agent are determined through the comprehensive analysis of the cemented block strength and the cost of the cementing material. The test results show that the tailing pulp concentration has no impact on the proportioning ratio of the cementing agent and the effect of the aggregate type on the agent is in fact that of the aggregate particle size.

Theoretically based on the difference in the hardness and density of diaspore and silicate mineral in bauxite, the analysis is made of where the difficulty lies in their classification and separation by conventional gravity method. It is suggested to introduce a cyclonic centrifugal field to intensify the difference in density, and the test is made on bauxite ore with A/S of 4.39 and a grind of 61.90% -0.074mm. The test results show that by increasing the feeding pressure of the hydrocyclone, the separation based on the density difference can be effectively strengthened. Increasing the apex diameter of the hydrocyclone can obtain underflow and overflow with A/S being 6.5~7.0 and 2.08 respectively. This can be an effective technical reference for the pre-desliming of low grade bauxite.

The continual uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau results in the strong uplift of the fault block of Lonshou Mountain between a pair of regional conjugated faults. In the fault block, there are two fault systems in longitudinal and horizontal distribution, under the effect of which, two groups of superior joint planes are developed in the rockmass. For a zone with strong fault activity, its faults and the joint planes of the rockmass, to the ground stress field, should approach the critical sliding state. The calculation of the friction force between the joint planes, which is made according to the practically measured stress data and the friction coefficient between the joint planes of the rockmass, does equal the maximum static friction force. Thus the mechanical calculation result conforms to the geoscienctific viewpoint and it can be seen that the weak intercalations in Jinchuan Mine have decisive effect on the accumulation degree and distribution state of the ground stress.
