Mine safety production is sensitive to the national image and is an important issue gaining attention both in and outside China. The safety situation in both metal and nonmetal mines is not optismetic as mine accidents frequently occur. Open-pit mining production occupies a large proportion in mining in China and nearly 40% of the open-pit slopes have the problem of instability, with the more serious disasters occurring in medium and large size open-pit slopes in both metal and non-metal mines. Such slopes are characterized by great slope height and complex engineering geological conditions. With the increase of the mining depth, the slope stability tends to be increasingly more serious and the disasters such as slope sliding have become the major disastors endangering the safety mining and the security of people's life and property. Based on the summary of the survey data, the status quo of the medium and large size open-pit slopes in both metal and non-metal mines in China are analyzed and the specific countermeasures are proposed.

Great progress has been achieved in the legal structures in China's mining field in the past 20 years and however, the problems have also become evident. Starting from the practically existing problems in the mining legal system, it is pointed out that whole modification and perfection of China laws concerning mineral resource have no time to delay. Specifically, perfection should be made in four aspects, namely the right ownership system of mineral resource, mining right system, tax-fee reform and way of civil legal remedy. A sound and clear right ownership legal system of mining resource should be established. It is proposed to clearly specify the quasi-property nature of mining right, pay attention to mining right equity, perfect the acquisition and circulation system of mining right. It is hoped that it sould be some help to the perfection of China's mining legal system.

Gushan Iron Mine of MaSteel Group is in typical complex geological circumstances of igneous rock and the traditional support can't meet with the requirement on tunnel stability. In order to adopt a reasonable excavation and support scheme, research was made for the N14 tunnel conjunction which is near to the south working face at the shaft bottom of -300 m level of Hou Hemuhan mine section. It is decided to adopt the pilot tunnel method for the excavation. According to the site geological characteristic and the support mechanism of bolting-shotcreting, bolting-grouting and pre-stressed anchor cable, it is decided to adopt a combined support scheme consisting of bolting-shotcreting for the primary flexible support and bolting-grouting and pre-stressed anchor cable for the secondary strengthening support, which has achieved good technical effect and economical benefit. The results show that the flexible stress-release support should be timely executed for the construction at the conjunction with great disturbance, the fractured and dilatable surrounding rock be rapidly sealed, and the support method combining bolting-grouting and pre-stressed anchor cable be used for large cross-sectional tunnel or the surrounding rock in large loose zone.

The plain concrete grouted layer will have a large quantity of small primary cracks in the concrete formed during its solidification, which can reduce the tensile strength and fracture toughness. The wall rock in deep roadway in soft rock will have great deformation and therefore requires a strong support strength and certain deformation degree and toughness of the support material. In view of this, it is proposed to use CTA modified polypropylene (coarse) fiber reinforced concrete to replace plain concrete. A large number of tests show that modified polypropylene (coarse) fiber can function as micro rib and increase both the toughness and strain capacity of the concrete at the same time of improving its strength. The stress simulation analysis of the roadway wall rock indicates that when the excavated roadway is lined by fiber reinforced concrete grouting, the shear failure zone will be transfered to the depth of the wall rock, greatly reducing the shear failure zone at roadway hance. It indicates that when used in the support for deep roadway, fiber reinforced concrete grouting can better depress the failure of the wall rock due to the increased strength and toughness, which can be a reference to engineering practice.

The development of modern underground mine has promoted the continuous input and application of larger drilling and ore drawing equipment, which has in turn led to an increasing larger haulage drift and cross section of drawpoint. The practice shows that the flow velocity of bulk ore rock at the stope drawpoint and the dimensions of drawpoint have remarkable influence on the drawing effect. According to the state of bulk ore rock flow at the drawpoint, the velocity distribution of the bulk ore rock drawing by bottom funnel-short pass and scraper mucking is analyzed. The affecting mechanism of the drawpoint on the ore drawing is disclosed, which is of guidance significance to the determination of rational stope structural parameters.

Based on the data obtained in the site geological survey and laboratory test,a mining model is built and numerical analysis is made of the orebody mining and filling processes by employing the large three-dimensional finite element software ABAQUS to obtain the distribution law of the stress field and displacement field for every construction step. The results show that when the method of upward horizontal slicing with cemented filling is used, cemented filling and tailings filling can be used to effectively control the stability of the wall rock of the stope. The filling body can effectively depress the stress release and deformation of the wall rock, thus retarding the release rate of the energy preserved in the rock strata so as to avoid the dynamic pressure such as impact ground pressure. A comprehensive assessment is also made of the stope stability and safety and some very beneficial conclusions are drawn.

Bao Steel' concentrator adopts a flowsheet consisting of low intensity magnetic separation, high intensity magnetic separation and flotation to recover iron concentrate and rare-earth concentrate. The originally used high intensity magnetic separation equipment was φ3200 horizontal ring separators, which had the deficiency of easy blockage of magnetic medium that could lead to deterioration of metallurgical performance. Therefore, based on the lab exploratory test, a series of industrial comparative tests were made between SLon-2000 vertical ring pulsating high gradient magnetic separators andφ3200 horizontal ring separator. The results indicated that for the high intensity magnetic separation operation, SLon separators, when compared with the horizontal ring separators, can improve the iron concentrate grade by 4.05 percentage points and iron recovery by 16.72 percentage points. According to this, the concentrator has gradually replaced the original separators by SLon magnetic separators. The production practice has proven that SLon magnetic separators can not only greatly improve the metallurgical performance but have the advantages of small water consumption, unblocked medium, stable operation, small maintenance and high availability.

The change in the iron ion concentration, pH and Eh in the Fe3+ oxidization and bio-oxidation process of pyrite is studied by using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The results show that as Fe3+ will rapidly be consumed, it has a low oxidation rate for pyrite while the presence of bacteria can continuously oxidize Fe2+ into Fe3+, thus evidently accelerating the pyrite oxidation rate. Therefore, bio-oxidation has higher efficiency. Based on the indirect function mechanism and in light of the change law of pH and Eh in the bio-oxidation process of pyrite, it is suggested that the phase characteristics of pyrite bio-leaching can be divided into three phases, namely, phase I (inorganic oxidation of pyrite), phase II (bio-oxidation of Fe2+) and phase III (equilibrium bio-oxidation of pyrite).

Most of secondary copper sulfides are associated with pyrite in the nature. Pyrite's over-dissolution in bioleaching can lead to acid-iron imbalance in the leaching system. Based on the atom orbit and molecular theory, the electrochemical dissolution mechanism of pyrite is analyzed and it is considered that redox potential is the key factor influencing the pyrite dissolution. Tests on pure pyrite by sulfuric acid leaching, ferric sulfate leaching and Leptospirillum are made. The results validate that when there are no bacteria, the redox potential will be basically lower than 700mV and the pyrite is hardly dissolved, with an iron leaching rate lower than 10%. When there are bacteria, the redox potential can be raised to higher than 800mV, speeding up the pyrite dissolution, with the iron leaching rate as high as 67%.

The results indicate that there is time and spatial variation in the pore structure of the rock-ore bulk media in the dump leaching process, which is related to the transfer and stacking of fine particles under both physical and chemical effects. The pore fractal dimensions decrease with the increase of height before the leaching but increases with the increase of height after the leaching; and the sectional fractal dimensions of the same zone will increase after the leaching when compared with before the leaching, with the increase extent in the lower zone being 19 times that in the upper zone.

Mining loss rate and ore dilution rate are important indexes characterizing the mining technology and management level of a mining enterprise. In view of the practical problems of large amount of work, difficult operation and inaccurate measured data in the conventional dilution and loss measurement, a new calculation method for mining dilution and loss based on CMS precision survey is proposed. The working principle of CMS and its survey process for the cavity are described and the concrete method of calculating the mining dilution and loss based on CMS survey is elucidated. With the precision survey of the cavity in Dongguashan Copper Mine as the real case, Surpac software for 3D design of mine was used to create the 3D models for the cavity, the design unit of stope and its bottom structure. Through the Boolean operation between the models, the accurate data of the real boundary and volume of the mined-out area, and the over-excavated amount, under-excavated amount and the remaining reserve in the cavity were obtained so that the mining dilution rate and loss rate were calculated accurately.

In open-pit mining, it is a common practice to use a blasting method to blast off the ore from the rockmass, which is then transported to a crusher plant for a primary crushing after the classification by a grate grizzly. Due to the blast-related causes, the large fragments of ore   sometimes can not pass the grizzly, leading to the interruption of the crushing process. In underground mining, large fragments of ore can also be produced, which may block the ore-pass opening, sluice screens or various grate grizzlies, thus seriously affecting the normal production. It is right for solving such problems that the fixed type hydraulic crusher is developed, which can also be used in underground mines as an new efficient secondary crushing machine.

The movement law of the grinding balls in planetary ball mill is mainly determined by centrifugal force. Based on the drawing showing the distribution of the centrifugal force acted on the balls at different positions in the mill chamber, the authors analyze the moving trajectory of the balls relative to the chamber and study the effect of the revolution speed, rotation speed and radius of the mill chamber and the size of balls on the ball movement. It is concluded that the improvement of both the revolution and rotation or the adoption of large diameter balls can obviously strengthen the grinding effect, thus providing a theoretical basis for the selection of the operation parameters of planetary bill mill.

The tailing from the magnetic separation of an Anhui magnetite ore contains copper and sulfur, which is characterized by low copper grade, fine dissemination copper mineral and high slime content. When it is treated by conventional flotation reagents and flowsheet that consists of copper-sulfur bulk flotation, copper separation from sulfur and middling recirculation in sequence, the obtained copper concentrate will have a grade on only 15.62% and a recovery of only 75.38%. Therefore, self-developed ester type sulfide ore collector PL411 is used in the industrial test with a new process of middling selective grinding-flotation closed circuit, finally obtaining a copper concentrate having a grade and recovery of 22.13% and 81.88% respectively and a sulfur concentrate having a grade and recovery of 46.58% and 78.47% respectively. The test results have laid a foundation for the secondary exploitation of the tailing of an Anhui magnetite ore and will also have some reference to the comprehensive utilization of other similar magnetite ores.

Test research was made on the preparation of polysilicate ferrite (PSF) flocculant by the process of acid leaching, catalytic oxidation, hydrolysis and polymerization with low grade hematite, spent sulfuric acid and sodium silicate. The results show that the optimal process conditions include: sulfuric acid concentration of 5~6 mol/L ; liquid-solid ratio of 4∶1, acid leaching temperature of 90 ℃, acid leaching time of 2~3 h, oxygen flowrate of 40 cm3/(min·L),  Fe/Si mol ratio of 2, pH value of 3 for activating silicate, silicate activating time of 25 min and aging time of 2 h. The resultant PSF was used in treating the waste water from printing and dyeing and was compared with polymerized ferric sulfate (PFS) and polyaluminium chloride (PAC). The results show that at a dosage of 90 mg/L, PSF can remove the turbidity, chroma, SS and CODCr from the waste water by 91.5%, 87.8%, 92.2% and 78.5% respectively, 10, 24, 14 and 18 percentage points higher respectively than those by PFS and PAC at the same dosage.

To improve the activity of iron tailing so as to make it possible to be used in large quality as raw material for cement production, the heat-activation property of iron tailing itself and the effect of red mud on it are studied using the iron tailing of Tong Steel. The results indicate that heat-activation only can not improve the iron tailing activity and it can be notably improved by wet grinding with red mud in a ratio of 1∶1. The test piece of cementation sand made of such iron tailing-red mud mixture (50%) after calcined at 600 ℃ for 2 h can have a 28 d compressive strength of 47.5 MPa, satisfying the requirement of the state standard on 42.5# cement.
