Abstract: With the geological environment management in Dongshan Open Pit as the background, and in view of the slope stability problems at the present open pit and the tailings pond that are changed from the pit,the measured topographic maps of the mine status and the field reconnaissance were adopted to select a typical slope section.Geo-studio software slope / W module were adopted to analyze the slope stability of the opencast stope.Through the numerical simulation analysis, the most dangerous sliding surface position of the selected typical section and the slope safety factor under various working conditions are obtained.Comparing with the results from the limit equilibrium analysis, the minimum safety factor of slope in Dongshan open pit is 1.201,which meets the specification. The research results indicated that most of slope sections are in stable state under a certain working condition. Some parts are basically in stable. That is,the slopes of the tailing pond are overall in security but the collapse and rock-fall possibly exist in some small parts. In general, the slope security can be guaranteed during the process of the tailing pond changed from open pit.
