Abstract: The experimental research of remote sensing rock mechanics indicates that the infrared radiation of rock varied characteristically in the process of rock loading and catastrophe happening, and the infrared technology can detect the stress and catastrophe of rock.In this paper the infrared detection tests were carried out in Yu'ernie gold mine of Hebei province and Qidashan iron mine of Liaoning province on the basis of past experimental research to the issue of mine safety related to rock fracture and destabilization. The result showed that thermal imager could detect effectively the high-stress area of tunnel, roof caving, water seeping, fault and landslip of opencast mine. The thermal images in these area were different form that of normal rock around. If the detection is carried out dynamically for a long time, the thermal imaging technology can predict the happening of mine disaster. The test results provide a new method to detect and predict the disasters happening of mine.
