Abstract: A low-grade titanium sand from Yunnan province possesses TiO2 grade of 5.32% and Fe grade of 11.07%, respectively; and most of the TiO2 and Fe elements are finely distributed in ilmenite and titanomagnetite minerals.A primary grinding-low intensity magnetic separation-high gradient magnetic separation-single grinding and reconcentration of rough concentrates technique was developed, in response to the characteristics of the sand with, low grade and fine distribution.Titanium concentrate assaying 46.30% TiO2and an iron concentrate assaying 54.17% Fe are produced, with the total TiO2and Fe recoveries as high as 63.59% and 30.89%, respectively. The technique provides a new method for the processing of such low-grade titanium  sands.
