    Based on the analysis of the basic conditions of the ventilation system construction in 50 metal mines in China during 1996—2006, the paper describes the related main progress that have been scored: the further extended application of various types of multi-staged fan station ventilation, sub-area-unit subsystem ventilation mode, technology of preheating and pre-cooling the inlet airflow, air-curtain controlling technology and mine-use energy-saving fan, etc.; and the related evident technical effect and electricity reduction benefit that have been achieved: an average effective air rate of 71.57%, an average fan efficiency of 74.17% and an annual electricity reduction of 3 459.51×104 kW·h. A basically complete theoretical system of China's metal mine ventilation and the mine ventilation technology with specific features have been preliminarily formed, an important contribution to the mine safety production.

    Titanium Concentrator of Pan Steel's Group can represent the titanium extraction technology for V-Bearing Titanomagnetite Ore in Panzhihua-Xichang Region. The paper analyzes the technical innovations in the important process and equipment for the titanium extraction from iron tailings since the eighties in 20th century, including the application of new equipment for thickening, classification, desliming, high intensity magnetic separation, gravity separation, and electric separation, the optimization of the roughing process, fine titanium ore recovery, etc. Its titanium separation technology is considered to reach the internationally advanced level. The thoughts on the future research for titanium extraction from blast furnace and ultrafine ilmenite are given.

    The progress in the research of preparing ultrafine copper powder by chemical reduction method is systematically summarized, with the highlight on the effect of reductive agents on the process, such as formaldehyde, ascorbic acid, sodium hypophosphite, potassium borohydride and hydrazine hydrate. Meanwhile, the factors influencing the nucleation and growth mechanism in the process are described briefly, including the solution pH value, temperature, reactants concentration, dispersant and protector. The present challenges in the process research are pointed out and the future research orientation is proposed.

    Based on the study of the relationship between the main occurrence factor of the faults in Jinchuan deposit area and the distribution law of structural stress field, the paper defines the destruction factor that characterizes the shearing sliding danger degree of the two sets of dominant joints of ore rock and wall rock, and analyzes the destruction factor of the two sets of along-vein dominant joints in the upper wall rock caused by the variation of the main stress direction.The calculation results indicate that in the east of the deposit area, F1 joint plane occurrence is the main factor controlling the workings stability while in the west of the area, F17 joint plane occurrence may become the main factor controlling the workings stability.The theoretical analysis results conform to those of the site monitoring of deformation destruction of along-vein workings.

    The roof failure accidents in large mined-out area have frequently occurred in domestic gypsum mines in recent years. Up to now, little study has been made on the mechanism of the large roof failure occurrence in gypsum mines. Based on the site investigation on the gypsum mines and in combination with the related rock mechanism theory and numerical simulation technology, it is concluded that the roof failure in the stope and in the large-scale mined-out area in gypsum mines is mainly induced by the decrease of the strength of the gypsum pillars due to its rheology and by the increase of the stress of the pillar due to the expansion of the mining area.

    The blasting parameters affect the blast quality and production cost and thus, can directly influence the mine production and safety. In view of the blasting problems in Waitoushan Iron Mine such as high large fragment rate and large toe which seriously affect the loading efficiency, the research on the rock Blastability is made. Several physicomechanical properties that can affect the blasting effect are tested on 14 representative ore-rock samples and their blastability is classified into easy-, medium- and difficult-to- blast groups using the calculation equation for blastability classification indexes and according to the classification exponent distribution, thus providing an important theoretical basis for the standardization of the blasting parameters and process.

    In light of the rockmass movement induced by the underground mining in metal mines, a three-dimensional theoretical model for forecasting and analyzing the ground surface movement is established based on the theory of elastic mechanics. It is used in forecasting the ground surface movement induced by the underground mining in Luzhong Iron Mine. In the analysis process, Matlab software is used in the numerical integration calculation and mapping. The calculation and analysis of the real engineering case show that the theoretical calculation results are basically in conformity to those practically measured. It can thus be seen that this mathematical model can satisfy the precision requirement of engineering and is suitable for studying the rockmass movement and displacement induced by the underground mining in metal mines and for assessing the safety of ground buildings.

    The ore sample analysis of a Yunnan iron concentrator shows that the sample mainly contains hematite and specularite and its iron minerals are fine disseminated.The new beneficiation process test indicates that the application of low intensity magnetic separation- high intensity magnetic separation-gravity separation process in the staged grinding and staged separation can obtain an iron concentrate grading 62.15% and having an iron recovery of 87.14%, up by 3.8 percentage points and 17.96 percentage points respectively compared to the original iron grade of 58.35% and iron recovery of 69.185, which illustrates that the test has achieved good metallurgical performances in improving both the grade and the recovery.

    Research is made on the process conditions for preparing magnesium hydroxide by hydration method with the magnesium oxide product of a salt lake in Qinghai as the raw material in the campaign of the comprehensive utilization of the resource of salt lakes.Single factor conditional tests are made on the effect of the reaction parameters such as the reaction time, reaction temperature, ratio of solid to liquid of the raw material, etc.on the conversion rate and product particle size, and to explore the mechanism of preparing magnesium hydroxide by hydration method.It has been preliminary determined that the optimal conditions for the preparation include the reaction temperature between180~200℃, the reaction time between 5~7h and the ratio of solid to liquid of the raw material of 1∶4, on which conditions, a flaky magnesium hydroxide product with d50 of about 20μm , uniform size and good crystallization can be obtained.

    The effect of corn starch, waxy corn starch, potato starch and cassava starch on the flotation for Diaojuntai iron ore is studied through the analysis of the depression mechanism of starch for hematite and the flotation test.The results indicate that these starches all have certain depression effect on the hematite and the difference in their depression effect for the hematite lies in their different molecular weight and their ratio of the branched chain to linear chain.

    Resonance method is used to measure the microwave adsorption property of titanium concentrate at various particle sizes and to study its relationship with the heat source strength P of the microwave field.The results show that the optimal particle size of Panzhihua's and Yunnan's concentrates is 80~100 mesh or 180~200mesh, at which, the material dielectric coefficient ε can reach the maximum value and the corresponding heat source strength P of the microwave field is also at its highest value.The optical particle size of the titanium concentrate in the microwave field is further determined through the test to be 180~200 mesh.This has provided a theoretical basis for the application of microwave in the metallurgical field for the purpose of energy saving.

    To make an appropriate prediction of the newly added mineral resource by exploration, the theory of systematic system is used to analyze the mineral resource survey system.It is suggested to use the artificial neural network to predict the newly added reserve by mineral resource exploration and the factors that affect the prediction are identified.The prediction program based on the MatLab 7 tool box of artificial neural network is compiled and the construction, training and testing of the artificial neural network are implemented, which is used to predict the newly added reserve of Guangxi lead-zinc ore in the future five years.

    3D geological modeling and visualization is a key technique in digital mine and is of great importance to the mine production, geoscienctific analysis and resource assessment.With the drill-hole information and geological section map as the basic data, the paper proposes a section-based 3D geological modeling process, which is used to establish the facial model of the geological body and the volumetric model of its corresponding geological blocks so as to finally realize a “section-TIN-block” facial-volumetric mixed modeling and visualization of the scientific calculation.The key algorithm involved in the modeling is studied; the method “cut-and-sew” is proposed for solving the 3D reconstruction problem of adjacent section contour lines which are greatly different from each other in the number of the shape and vertex; and the triangulation algorithm for polygon with islets is studied for solving the modeling of complex geological body with stones and holes.

    In view of the medium blockage problem in high gradient high magnetic separator for recovering fine particles in the new project of JiuSteel Concentrator, a patented technology of water-gas mixed flushing is used.Industrial single kind of medium and integral unit tests indicate that the adoption of this technology can greatly improve the flushing rate, effectively prevent the medium from blockage and meantime evidently improve the metallurgical performance.The industrial test shows that this new type SSS high gradient magnetic separator can improve the concentrate yield by 12.85% and recovery by16.81%.

    To scientifically assess the ecological environment of mining area, a concept of buffer area is proposed and the plant coverage rate, soil erosion rate, water body pollution rate, geological disaster occurrence rate, and land resource occupation and destruction rate are chosen as the indexes for the assessment. The information of the ecological environment of mining area is obtained through remote sensing and assessed by means of GIS , mainly by carrying out  the operations of spatial overlapping, extraction, value assignment and buffer area on the basic data layers so as to produce new spatial characters and new attribute relations. The method has the advantages of rapid calculation and strong function.

    An overall design of 3D visualized simulation system of mine ventilation is proposed, which is composed of the modules of 3D automatic construction of the ventilation system, 3D visualization of the ventilation system, dynamic airflow simulation and 3D interactive inquiry of the attributes of the ventilation map.The module of ventilation system construction is to provide the data to the system; the 3D visualization module is for the 3D visualization operation of the system; the dynamic airflow simulation module is based on the modified particle system algorithm and can display the ventilation parameters such as airflow direction, airflow type and airflow amount; and the 3D interactive inquire module is used for the space inquiry and analysis of the ventilation system.The detailed study and implementation are made on the above four modules, and the practical application of them with the ventilation data of a mine in Kailuan mine area has verified the feasibility and practicability of the system.

    The mixture of sodium hydroxide and ammonia , sodium carbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate are used as precipitants to treat the manganese-containing wastewater produced in the production of trimanganese tetroxide.The effect of the type and dosage of the precipitants, precipitation temperature, flocculant and aging time on the precipitation of manganese ions and the factors influencing the impurity content of trimanganese tetroxide are studied.The manganese ion content in the treated wastewater can be below 2×10-6 and the manganese ions recovered can be used to prepare high pure trimanganese tetroxide.

    The application of precipitation-flotation method in treating copper-containing acid mine drainage from copper heap leaching plant in Zijinshan Gold Mine, which uses sodium sulfide and dibutyl ammonium aerofloat to precipitate and float copper, and slime and oleic acid to precipitate and float copper and iron, can not only enable the treated water to reach the discharge standard but also effectively recover the copper and iron from the waste water so as to reduce the treatment cost.

    The paper describes the pollution conditions of the tailing reservoir of a uranium mine in Southwest China and the measures taken to control the pollution, with the highlight on the composition of the covering layer for reducing radon emission and the technology and construction of the permeable reactive barriers for treating acidic seepage water.After the remediation, the average 222Rn emission is reduced to 0.68 Bq/(m2·s) and the environment radiation rate to(28~176) ×10-8 Gy/h and the pH value of the seepage water is 8.3, metal uranium concentration 0.03mg/L and SO2-4 180mg/L.The existing problems are analyzed and discussed.
